GOLF

MIRAMAR CLUB. The Mit-amar Golf Club qpened its season's play on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and their friends. In a short speech, the captain Mr. J. P. Firth, declared the seasoq open. The usual competitions then took place, the results being as follow :— L'adies' driving competition was won by Misß Waller (150 yds), Miss E. Gray (144), and Miss D. Wilson (137) v bemg the neXt best. The ladies' approaching competition was won' by Miss M. Gavin, and the putting competition resulted in a tie between Miss A. Marks and Miss S. Cartel 1 . The men's driving was won by Mr. W. T. Doughty (187 yds), and the approaching by Mr. R. L. D. Kidston. In the putting there waa a tie between five players, Messrs. H. Hawthorne, R. L. 'D. Kidston, Rev. A. W.^Compton. H. S. Hislop and Mr. ■W. Hoi-ton, who wilt play oif to decide it during the week.
