WORN OUT WARSHIPS

PROMETHEUS AND TORCH. THE GOVERNMENT BLAMED,. Bjr Telegraph.— PreM Association.— Copyright, LONDON. 24th January. Major Archer-Shee, Unionist M.P. for Finsbury, in a letter to the newspapers referring to the case of the warships Prometheus and Torch, of the Australian Squadron, which both broke down at sea, declares that the whole fault for the defective condition of these Vessels lies with the present Government, as during its years in office it has not built a single ship to take the places of the old j small cruisers on the Cape, East InI dies, and Australian, and Pacific Stations. Consequently the old Bhips were constantly breaking down, and being patched up. The Admiralty shielded themselves, as in the case of the Torch and Prometheus, by censuring or superseding officers in connection with the defective condition of the Bhips.
