A magisterial enquiry has been ordered by the Marine Department into the circumstances surrounding the mishap to the coastal steamer John, which during ft recent., trip from Gisborne to Wellington, ran on to a shoal a few miles southward of Napier. After a very brief delay, the vessel was floated, and proceeded On her jdurhey to Wellington, whtre she was later placed on the Patent Slip. The estimated cost of the repairs, slipping expenses, etc., was £300. The vessel left Lyttelton last evening for Nelson and Wanganui, and the Collector ofCustoms at Wellington will probably arrange for the holding of the enquiry on the John's next vUt to this port. Cable advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company stating that the Ruahine lefty London for Wellington last Saturday, and Plymouth two days later. WAIMATE AT MELBOURNEi In continuance of her voyage flponi Montreal the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Waimate arrived at Melbourne yesterday on completion of discharge at that port the veseel will proceed to Sydney, and thence to Auckland, Wellington,. Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Waimate is due here about the 18th February, t ' INDRABARAH TO LOAD FOR NEW ZEALAND. The Tyser steamer Indrabarah arrived Home from Australian ports on the 13th January. She has been fixed to load at London for Australian and New Zealand ports, and will sail about the 9th January. Captain G. F. Entwisle has rejoined the Vie toria, relieving Captain H. C. Kell. After a passage of 82 days the four masted schooner Robert R. Hind arrived at Lyttelton On Sunday from Gray's Harbour, U.S.A. The long voyage was, with the exception of the heavy galeß during the flfst three weeks after the vessel's departure, practically uneventful. On Thursday evening last the vessel made the New Zealand coast In the vicinity of Bast Cape, and a strong north-west gale took the vessel down the coast In steamboat time uutil she was becalmed about thlrty-elght miles from Lyttelton heads early on Saturday morning. She has on board a cargo of 675,000 ft of Oregon pine.
