THE PICTON EXCURSION

( ~ •— The 400 persons who made the trip to Picton by the Maori were rewarded by a most enjoyable day's outing. Although' the ferry steamer left three-quarters of' an hour late, she made excellent time across, arriving in Picton' a few minutes after 12 o'clock. The ideal weather prevailing there had tempted many to the Sounds from the surrounding districts, Picton wearing quite a holiday aspect in consequence. The holiday-makers spent the day in various ways. Some , were taken to Blenheim by a special train which awaited the arrival of, the excursion steamer; others— and these were in a majority — picnicked in the Domain,' and a large number patronised the new swimming baths. Wirth's Cirois was also an added attraction. The return trip was commenced at 3 o'clock sharp. One individual, who evidently did not number punctuality among his virtues, arrived a few minutes late, and was left lamenting on the Pi<ston Wharf. On the way across the fine sight of a barque 4 in full sail was seen, the vessels coming quite close to each other. The Madn berthed at 6.45 p.m., after an excellent trip.
