high commissioner's cabled report; The Department of Agriculture, Industrie's, and Commerce, has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London 7th December. (Note.— Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are ayerage prices on spot) : — Mutton — The market is firm with a hardening _ tendency. High prices are restricting business in tho market. Moderate supplies are coming forward. Canterbury, 4|d per lb: North Island, 51d. Lamb--The market is steady and holders are firm. C&htiSrbufy, sid per lb; other than Canterbury, sid. Beef.— There is a better demand. N.Z." hinds, 3£d per lb; fores, 3£d. Biitter.— The market has advanced. It is difficult to decide the cause, but opinion ie traders consider it advisable to secure sure supply of first-class quality for Christmas trade ; also belief becoming more general that colonial choicest will bo in small supply. Choicest New Zealand, per cwt, 118s to 1225; ordinary quality, 112e to 116s; Australian, 114«; Argentine, 112b; Danish, 1295; Siberian, 108s. Cheese.— The market is steady. There is a .better demand. Lower prices are encouraging business. The average price for the week for tho finest New Zealand cheese ib— White, 60s 6d ; coloured, 61s 6d 'per cwt. Hemp.— The market is quiet, but steady. New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £33; fair grade, £31 10s, for any position 1 ; fair current Manila, £32; forward shipment, £34. The output from Manila for the week was 18,000 bales. Wheat.— The market is dull on account of heavy arrivals. New Zealand longberried, ex granary, per quarter of 4%lbs, 38»; shortberried, 375. Oats. — The market is- quiet, but steady. A large supply. New Zealand short sparrowbills, ex granary, per quarter of 3841b«, 255; Danish, per quarter of 3201b5, 235. Beans. — The market is firm, with more enquiry. New Zealand f.a.q. (new crop), per 6041b5, 39s 6d. Peas.— The market is weak and inactive. New Zealand (partridge), per 5041b5, 38s 6d. River Plate shipments received during the month of November, 1912: — Mutton. Lamb.
