" In presenting Ernest Barry, the champion sculler, with the Spdrtsman's Cup (which is now his own), Lord Desfcorough paid a tribute to Barry for raising English sculling from the abyes in which it had been wallowing for ttiany years. He mentioned the fact that jijtany ' who were pursuing rowing and sculling in Australasia had told him, twth' at Stockholm and Henley, prior to ifie world's championship of 1912 that Arnst was not only the >best sculler at gpat time, but that he was Capable of linking with the crew of scullers Ausfc»laßia or any other country had ever produced. More honour, therefore, was due to Barry for bringing the champion#nip to England. r -^Barry, in returning thanks,, said he hipped to hold the championship f6r many yfears.
