Striking evidence of the cyclone which visited TrentbajM on Saturday was noticed^ on the rifle range yesterday. The roof of the refreshment booth left its .base and advanced in open order over ihe surrounding country, and now lies -scattered far^and "wide. A telegraph pole ■was ,also blown down. Yesterday an open handicap sweepstake was fired, two matches ana an aggregate being arranged. The light was good and the •wind tricky, the allowance required on the long ranges being from 3ft to 15ft right. The targets adopted by the Dis* trict Rifle Association for the coming meeting were used for the first tinie, including the figure target at 300 yds and 500 yds, of the standard pattern and colours now approved for the Dominion. These were favourably commented on. Some good scoring was done. The short range match, seven shots each at 300 yds, 500 yds, and 600 yds was won by President Marshall (Karori), with the fine score of 98, which included a " possible " .Kb 600 yds. Rifleman Turner (Karori) took second prize with the good score 0/ 9fi. The long-range match, seven shote each at 800 yds, 900 yds, and 1000 yds was Won by Rifleman Chirnside (Karori), with the splendid score of 02 — a very good performance. Rifleman Lewis (Karori) took second prize. The aggregate for 1 the day was 'divided between Riflemen Chirnside ' and Lewis (both Karori). Rifleman Lewis 1 registered a poniz'Me At 800 yds.
