Th© survey party from Scott'e Antarctic Expedition ship Terra Nova, which for the past four months has I been working in Admiralty Bay, at i the eastern approach to ' French Pace; completed work on Thursday last, and members are now returning to Lyttelton. Lieutenant Pennell, who arrived in Lyttelton yesterday morning, informed a, reporter that the area surveyed was about eight mike long and three miles wide. In that area over 10,000 soundings had been made, ' and these showed that the general dopbh of the whole of Admiralty Bay was from 20 to 25 : fathoms, the bottom being of mud, with I a few sandy 'patches, and no outlying danger*. A party was sent out early ' this month to locate the rock reported by Messrs. Hope on Jhe Tasman Bay aide of French Pass. This rock, which is now known as Hope Bock, was fixed two miles off Okuri Bay, and the same' distance from Tangi. Point, D'UrvilleIsland. Two days were also spent in taking a few lines of soundings into Hamilton Bay, at the southern end of Admiralty Bay. It was found that there was a uniform depth of slightly over 20 fathoms, with a mud bottom devoid of rocks. ,' Lieutenant Pennell stated that the party had been very comfortably billeted at the Elmelie Bay Accommoda* tlon House,- and that the people living in the vicinity had been exceedingly kind, and had given them every aeewtsince possible.
