THE DEFENCE SCHEME TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— ln your issue of this evening nfcress is lajd on th« popularity of the Defence scheme. It is popular only to those least affected, and who desire to impose their wishes on an unsympathetic people. Tf as popular as you say, why 'resort to more drastic measures, and why not give the people a chance to express their views, and show its popularity or otherwise.! Also, I should like to aek, if it is popular, why defaulters should bo disfranchised .for ten, years, if not afraid that, the said defaulters would exercise the vote against the measure when opportunity offered? Do not such measures show the unpopularity of the scheme?— l am; ete'i, ONE AFFECTED-A MOTHER. Petone, 11th Ootober, 1912.
