Mr. Joseph Cook urged that someI thing should be done to induce the Imperial Government to come to a decision regarding a State-owned Atlantic cable. The modicum between the price now charged and what it would cost to run ft cable would turn it into a paying proposition. The Minister replied that a motion had been submitted to the Imperial Conference, but had been turned down owing to the* opposition of the Imperial Government.
