MASS MEETING HELD
MEN WILL NOT RESUME WORK. (BY IELEGBAPH— SPfiCIAfi to tm rOSI.) WAIHI, This Day. At a mass meeting of strikers this morning, attended by about ISO men and very closely* guarded by pickets, a resolution was adopted, after some discussion— "That no members of the union resume work nest Wednesday or until such time as the federation thinks fit." H. Kennedy and W. Richards, prominent members of the committee, were elected president and vice-president temporarily. , The federation reported that £15,475 had been received up to date, and money was still coming in freely. It urged the men to remain solid, as it could hang out another month if necessary, Mr. Charles Rhodes, attorney of the Waihi Company in New Zealand, is at present in Wellington. He informed it representative of The Post to-day that he had nothing to say a#art from what he 'had already said on the Waihi miners' dispute and the resumption of work at the mine. Nest Wednesday, he added, work will begin, and it was hoped to carry on to the fullest extent of the men employed. He did not anticipate any difficulty about getting sufficient menior the company's requirements when the progress .made warranted their engagement. In the meantime the less said about the resumption of work the better. When the mine was reopened and all running as smoothly as he believed it would, he would be in a better position to speak about it than at present. Messrs. R. Semple, Fraser, and Howard, of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, returned from Auckland last evening. The situation at Waihi will be discussed by the executive of the Federation to-morrow.
