PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE

- DISCUSSION IN PARLIAMENT. The discussion on the Public Trust Oflice- continued in the House of Representatives after The Post went to' press yesterday. Mr. Statham said he had heard a Judge in Chambers remark that the more wills the Public Trust Office prepared for its clients the better it would be for the legal profession. Mr. Laurenson said that any man in the House who made a disparaging remark about the Public Trust Office was no credit to the country. We should do all we could to maintain the high standard" of the office. Mr. Isitt'deprecated the manner in which some members* were continually damning Government Departments with faint | praise. The Hon. A. L. Herdman, replying, said that a Bill would be introduced this session to clothe the Public Trust Offices in Dunedin, Christchurch , and probably Auckland, -* with greater authority and nower than they at present possess. With regard to an Inspector Of Realisation, he had found that at present there was no proper system of inspection, and he suggested that two proper inspectors should be appointed. That would be done. The business of the Public Trust Office was growing to such an extent that the constitution of it would have to be altered. He thought some men with business training should be appointed to assist the Trustee. He intended submitting . the matter to Cabinet. It was decided that the report of the Public Trustee be printed.
