Twenty thousand Socialists held a demonstration in favour of universal suffrage, concurrent with the opening of Parliament. There was some rioting, during which several persons were injured. The Government has asked for a preliminary credit of a million and ahalf florins (£125,000) for expenditure on fortifications at Flushing and elsewhere.
