TUGS-OF-WAR

About three hundred spectators attended at the tug-of-war totifney held at the " V shed last evening? The demonstration was in aid "of the fund to finance the Wellington Drivers'' team, which leaves for Sydney to-morrow to pull in the International tourney to be held at the Stadium at the end of the present month. The drivers met a team of waterside workers in the opening event, and easily accounted for their opponents, who looked to be the heavier side. The drivers' team consisted of P. Phelan, J. O'Leary. R. Reid, P. Fox, E. Baird, M. Davin, R. Hamilton. A. Brown, H. Haywood, and J. O'Brien, with H. Spargo captain. The reserves are A. Holt and M. M'Govern. The wharf labourers' team was captained by D. Cook, and comprised G. Anderson, Gus. Wolff, J. Anderson. A. G. Henderson, Albert Anderson, Fitzmaurice, G. A. Hill, Geo. Rowe. Fred Dinder, and Fred f ßiel. Subsequently the drivers pulled ""a scratch team (one man catch) well over in a fiveminute bout.' while the drivers' second team beat Cable's foundry by ten inches. A. W. Kent. Napier, and G. Hester gave a ten-minute exhibition of catch-as-catcli-can wrestling. The former gained a fall in the first ten minutes, but the lighter man (Hester) resisted all further attempts to throw him. Mr. J. Doyle acted as ring master. Musical selections were provided by the Waterside Workers' Brass Band!
