DRIVERS' DISPUTE
HEARING CONCLUDED, Evidence in the drivers' disputes, a series of applications made simultaneously with a view of obtaining a uniform award, was concluded yesterday. Addressing the Court on behalf of the employers. Mr. Prvor claimed that the evidence did not disclose dissatisfaction on the part of the men. The employers would welcome a Dominion award, as they believed they would get something like peace, but they hoped that if an increase in wages were made it would apply only to the four centres. Replying for the union. Mr. Hunter claimed that the employers' counterproposals offered a wage of only 8d per hour, if stable time were counted. All the workers wanted was a fair living wage, which would enable them to pvri by a littlo for the time when they Were unable to follow a strenuous occupation. The Court reserved ile decision.
