EXTRA EDITION. LIVELY SCENES

AT WAIKINO ALLEGED ATTEMPT AT INTIMIDATION-. A STAND-UP FIGHT.

[BY TELEOEAPH— PBBSS ASSOCIATION.] 3VAIHI, This Day. Several lively scenes are reported from Waikino in connection with the appearance of a few of the Waihi Company's staff in that township yesterday. It is stated that attempts at intimidation were indulged in during the day. There was no interference while the men were at work, the reason being that they were on private property, from which trespassers are rigorously barred ; but it is staied that on their way to lunch and in the train in the afternoon {he employees had a lively time, some of the epithets used being characterised as insulting and offensive. The same thing happened on the arrival of one, at least, of the employees in Waihi last night. He was followed from the train to a point near to the mine, and compelled to listen to remarks the reverse of complimentary. It is understood that the' police took no action. On the strength of a report that a number of arbitrationists were coming from Auckland to work at Waikino, a party of strikers engaged all the available beds in the township, with the object of cornering accommodation. Arbitrationists at Waikino are holding the fort, the attempt at intimidation having so far had no effect. A stand-up fight between an arbitrationist and a federationißt took place at Waikino this morning.
