REVOLUTION IN NICARAGUA UNITED STATES TROOPS ORDERED TO MOVE. Alleged barbarity. By Telegraph.— Tte'ta Association.— Copyright. WASHINGTON, 28th August. President Taft has directed tlie 10th. United States Infantry Regiment to leave the Panama Canal Zone and make a landing in Nicaragua within fortyeight hours. Reports forwarded to the President are to the effect that the general conditions prevailing through' out Nicaragua are bordering on barbarism. The American Minister in Managua in a report to the State Department states that the city is subject to constaht shell fire, and that rebels have been guilty of indiscriminate attacks on Americans, whose lived are in daily peril. General Altscheul, representing the revolutionary Jiirita in Washington, denies the truth qI the charges of barbarity brought against the rebels, and asserts that in one Case where the bodies of the elain 'were burned the step was taken merely as a sanitary precaution. It was not due to any barbarous practice. The General cay« that American residents would, not have been attacked if they had not prevented rebel forces from capturing and operating the rail way between Managua (capital of Nicaragua) and Corinto (the principal port of the Republic, on the Pacific coast)! AMERICAN FORCE LANDS. AN OBSTRUCTING FORCE SUBDUED* • REFUGEES REACHING CORINTO. (Received August 30, 10.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, 29th August. News from Corinto, Nicaragua, states that, a force of two hundred American marines landed from the gunboat Annapolis, and , penetrated through the revolutionary _ territory, reaching Leon after subduing by tnreats an obstructing revolutionary force. The invaders found Leon in a normal state. The rioting has ceased. The force afterwards 'departed towards Managua. Refugees in large numbers are reaching Corinto, whore American marines are keeping guard. ORDER COUNTERMANDED. (Received" August 30, 9.65 a.m.) WASHINGTON, 29th August. Mr. Taft ha<* suddenly countermand ed the order despatching the 10th Infantry Regiment to Nicaragua. The ground of the President's action is stated to be that a sufficient force of marines will airive at Managua during the coming week to protect all Americans.
