THE MARKETS
The New Zealand Farmers' Cp-opera-tive Distributing Company, Ltd., report as follows :— Potatoes still maintain values as last week, and sales are readily made. The market is under-supplied. Seed potatoes are firmer, and the demand is now to hand. Onions are in limited demand at present exceptionally high rates. Separator and dairy butter is in good enquiry. Eggs are remaining steady, and with no indications of change in values. Porkers are in excellent demand. Large orders are coming to hand for Mount Lyell superphosphate, which is arriving weekly, the supply being unaffected by tho recent dislocation of shipments through strikes, as is the case with English limes. Tallow is in good salo. Honey has sold readily during the last few weeks, and a shortage is anticipated during the next few months. Apples have come to hand in fairly large quantities from Nelson, and the market is easier; the lower, prices are also accounted for by tho fact that many reCent arrivals have been in a shrivelled and bruised condition. Cauliflowers are somewhat weaker, but cabbage is exceptionally high and scarce. Parsnips are .plentiful, but other vegetables, especially pumpkins, are in brisk demand. Chaff is dull, and all grains are quiet, but grass-seed orders lor spring sowing are now coming in. <
The Wellington Professional Orchestra will give another of ita enjoyable concerto in the Town Hall on. Sunday evening next. An attractive programme has been, prepared, the leading feature of which is Liezt's Rhapsodic No. 2. Mr. Herbert Bloy will conduct. The organ recital in tho Town Hall tomorrow will be notable ' for the first performance of Karg-Elert's "Chaoonne in B. minor, the first part of a composition which has' been described as "an amazing work, and a mine of harmonic and contrafutal wealth." Mr. Maughan Barnett will also play Rubinstein's "Reye Angelique," his own Fantaisie on National Airs, and Bach's "Great" G minor Fugue. Mr. Doherty will sing one of Woodforde-Fin-den's Indian Love Lyrios, and German's "Glorious Devon."
