MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE CONCLUDING BUSINESS.
Business was expedited at the .Municipal Conference yesterday afternoon with tho end of the supplementary or- s der. papers in view. Tho following motions, in the names of Invercargill and Hawera respectively, were carried without discussion : — "That it is desirable that ( Parliament- should make provision that owners 'of land within a given distance of towns desiring to subdivideand sell land for settlement should reserve an area .or areas equal to 10 per cent, of the area so subdivided for-pub-lic recreation^ aud vest' such reservation in. the- local body of the district," and "that legislation be enacted to make the position clear regarding burial of de&tituto porsons. 'It is considered that this responsibility should rest with the Hospital and 'Charitable Aid Boards. The council has been advised that boards are now liable (see section 50 of the Public Health Act, 1908, and amendng Act of 1910) ; but the position requires to be made more explicit." A unanimous vote of thanks, with a bonus of £25, was carried to Mr. T. F. Martin, solicitor to the association, for his services, attendance, and advico during tho proceedings. On the motion of Mr. E. N. Liffiton (Wanganui), a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the chairman, Mr. D. M'Laren, with applause and tho singing of "He's a Jolly Good Fellow." The officers for 1912-13 were elected, as follow : — President, Mr. D. M'Laren, Mayor of Wellington ; vice-presidents, tho Mayors of Auckland, Cliristehurch, Dunedin, and Nelson; executive committee, tho Mayors of Petone, Lower Hutt, Palmerston North, Karori, Onslow, and Masterton, and Councillor A. H. Hindmarsh (Wellington), one representative each from upper Hutt and Johnisonville Town Boards, and the president and vice-presidents; secretary, legal adviser, and treasurer, Mr. T. F. Martin. Thanks to the Wellington City Council for the use of the Council Chamber, and to the press for its reports ot th« proceedings, concluded tho business of the 1 conference, which adjourned fchortly after 4 p.m. The delegates were afterwards the guests of His Excellency the Governor at afternoon tea at Government House, being taken up in special tramcars, among which was one of the new Davey 1 type.
