MUNICIPAL DELEGATES ENTERTAINED BY CITY COUNCIL.
Tho delegates to the Municipal Con- i fei-ence, with their ladies, were entertained to "lunch by the Wellington City Council in the Town Hall Concert Chamber to-day. The speeches delivered in the proposal of toasts and in tho responses were of a felicitatory character in general, with occasional humorous referenco to various aspect of the conference and the relations of the different municipal authorities in the Dominion. The president of the conference, Mr. D., M'Laren, Mayor of Wellington, oc cupied the chair, and about two hundred guests were present. In response to the toast of "Tho N«w Zealand Municipal Association," moved by the chairman, the Mayors of Christchurch, Dunedin, Palmerston North, Woolston, and Ashburton (Messrs. 11. Holland, J. Wilson, J. A. Nash, J. M'Gregor Wright, and H.Davis) praised the conduct of the business of the conference by Mr. M'Laren, and touched discursively on municipal matters. The Mayor of Cliristchurch proposed "The Secretary and Adviser of the Municipal Association*, and Mr. T. F. Margin suitably responded. Councillor MicnaiUs, of Auckland, proposed "The Wellington City Council," and genial reply .was made by tbe Mayor and Councillors Smith, , Atkinson, Trevor, Fletcher, and Cohen. The toast of "The Municipal Officers" was proposed by Mr. John Wilson, Mayor of Dunedin, in complimentary terms, and Mr. J. R. Palmer, Town Clerk of Wellington, returned appropriate thanks. With the toast of "The Ladies," proposed by Mr. E. N. Lifnton (Wanganui) and replied to' by Ml*. J. Gleeson (Auckland), a pleasant function terminated.
