NAPIER'S CARNIVAL [BY TELEGRAPH-PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
NAPIER, This Day. As Napier is holding a week's carnival next month, commencing on the 14th, an effort is being made to get the ladies' hockey tournament (over which a deadlock occurred in Auckland) played here. The carnival programme includes tho annual musical competitions, representative football and hockey matches, and an international tug-o'-war. Already many enquiries have been received lor accommodation, and special provision 1b being made by hotelkeepers. Entrants for tho musical competitions total about 1300.
An East Coast settlor tells n Wairarapa Ago representative that thousands of rabbits have been destroyed on backblocks stations by the heavy rains of the last week or two. Messrs. A. L. Wilton and Co. advertise a clearing salo of Tho Metallic Sign mid Plating Co.'s plant at the factory, 35, Nairn-street, commencing at 2 o'clock tomorrow,
