PENNY-IN-SLOT TELEPHONES
I* XHI XDITOS. j ' Sir, — I cannot quite- understand the placing of the above in the localitieß proposed, viz., Hataitai Post Office, or prac. tically that bo far^ as position is coJdcerned, and the Post Office at Kilbirnifc, considering that there are already public telephones there. No doubt it may be said that these offices close at 5 o'clock p.m., but I am quite sure that in cases of emergency the officials in charge would not object to getting up at unholy times in order to oblige in cases of great need. I certainly think one should be put at the tram shed at the junction of Hamilton, Wellington, S&atotin,, and Evans Bay roads, as that is the centre of considerable traffic, and of a large number of residents. I hope the Department will carry but the f above suggestion. I am sure if the Department would like a deputation of the residents affected one would wait on it. I am, etc., CENTBAL.
