COST OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS
Yesterday, a return giving the contract price and the amount paid for extras of the erection of certain public buildings in Wellington was laid before Parliament. The contract price for the Customhouse was £26,998. There were no extras and no deductions. Te Arb Post Office: Contract price £5687, extras £74, deductions £47, amount paid £5714. Magistrate's Court: Contract price £8025, extras £118, deductions £68, amount paid £8075. Kilbirnie Post Office :■ Contract price £1407. extras £66, deductions £3, amount paid £1470. Public Trust Office- Contract price £40,780, extras £1858, deductions £2530, amount paid £40,058. The deduction of £2580 in regard to the Public Trußt Office incluuded £2192 deducted from the contract ,for electric elevator, floor and wall tiles, locks, etc. These items were obtained outside th» contract.
Dr. Truby King;, who recently received leave of absence in order to deliver lectures on infant life and kindred subjects, will commence his series of leotures next week. The first address will be given at the Parish Hall, Lower Hurt, at 2.30 p.iul on Monday next; and will bo followed by one at Petone. in this Municipal Chambers, at 8 o'clock ou Tuesday evening. The subjects on both occasions will be "Health and Heredity: How io Promote the Rising Cieijerution." It will be illustrated by lantern slides. The Mayors of both Petoue and Lower llutt have consented to preside. So far, the Petone Borough Council has not received any intimation from MessiH. D.
