PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
I Mr. W. Watson presided at last night's meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A large budget of alleged cruelty I cases notified by the Inspector • (Mr. j Seed) were dealt with in the usual manner. In view of the nuisance caused by certain horse-owners allowing useless and decrepit animals to wander on the Town Belt, it was decided to interview the city authorities, and see if anything can be done to remedy the matter. , The following donations were acknowledged :— "Rata," £1; Messrs. Bell, Gully, Bell, and Myers, Dresden Piano Co., New Zealand Express Co., 10s 6d each; Messrs. Ferguson and Hicks, 10s; Mesdames A. Myers, W. Campbell, Brandon, T. H. Gill, Dr. J. H. Kemp, Messrs. Dry den, Thomas Ballinger and Qo., Wright, Dickson, and Witt, UUathorn and Hartridge, R. Jamieson and Co., Badham and Biss, 5s each; Mrs. Anderson aaid friends, 4s 6d; Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Evans, Messrs. C. Mann, Focke, W. G. Clark, H. 8., Town and Country Supply , Co., A. Loasby, 2s 6d each ; Miss Gruar, Is : total, £7 2a 6d. The following additional donations were collected and forwarded by Miss Callender, of the Hutt : — Mrs Callender £1 0s 6d, Mr. Feist 10s, Messrs. Clendon and Bull ss, Mrs. Coverdale ss, F. Jenness 2s 6d, C. Queen 2s : total, £2 sb.
