The Select Committee of the House set up to consider tho quostion of privilege' raised by Mr. R. M'Calhlm, membet* for Wairau, in regard to the publica. tion of a letter reflecting on the conduct of the election, met this morning. The Hon. T. Mackenzie was elected chairman, Mr. Skerrett, K.C., appeared for Mr. M'Cbllum. The committee decided that its proceedings should be open to the' press, and then adjourned to enable the chairman to obtain the opinion of Mr. Speaker regarding the scope of the , enquiry.
