, m The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) is expected in Wellington on Wednesday, Mr. Justice Cooper on Friday, and Mr. Justice Chapman to-day or to-morrow. Mr. W. Archer, head messenger in the Government Life Insurance Department, is retiring after forty years' service. He •will be replaced by Mr. T. R»e, for some time attached to the staff of the Hon. A. Ngata. Mr. H. Oscar Hewett (of Oscar Hewett and Co.) left by the Moana on Friday last for England. It is his object to place upon the market a patent knitting machine, invented by Mr. W. H.. Beale, of Wellington. Mr. Beale also proceeds Home at th» end of the month in, connection with the same matter. The patent ■waa exhibited at the recent Wellington Industrial Exhibition. Colonel Wolfe, who for five yeans has been in command of the Auckland military district, leaves the northern capital to-morrow for this city to take a position on the headquarter* staff of General Godley. The' Auckland Star says that Colonel Wolfe, while officer commanding in Auckland, by his ability and tact has become deservedly popular, and his departure will be much regretted. Colonel Logan, of Wellington, who succeeds Colonel Wolfe, has already taken up his duties at Auckland. Mr. Arthur Kember, a resident of Wellington for some years, died in this city at an early hour this morning, after an operation for an internal complaint. The deceased, who waa 62 yeans of age, "was born in Surrey, England, and was educated at Sydenham College. Ho spent some years in France, where he was engaged in the silk trade. Thirtyfive year* ago he came to New Zealand and followed the profession of accountant in different part* of the Dominion. He was married to' Miss Marion Allen, of Timaru, who predeceased him by eighteen years, leaving him a son and a daughter, who a-re now in England. Mr. Henry Kember, of Wellington, i» a brother of ifche deceased.
