LORD MERSEY'S REPORT.
GROSS CARELESSNESS CAUSES TITANIC WRECK. EXONERATION OP MR. ISMAY. By Trtegrapli. -Prees Association,— Copyright. LONDON, 28t.h June. Lord Mersey, president of the Special Commission of Enquiry into th© loss of the Titanic, in his report, remarks that the collision occurred in the region mentioned in a wireless message sent out by the Atlantic Transport Company's steamer Mesaba as being endangered by ice, but apparently thie message did not reach the Titanic's bridge, otherwise the disaster would not have occurred. The only other inference was that there had been gross carelessness. Apparently Mr. Phillips, chief wireless operator on the Titanic, had been unable to judge the importance of the message, or had been, too busy to attend to it. There was no evidence to show that Mr. Ismay had interfered with the navigation of the ship. Lord Mersey adds that he is satisfied no attempt wae being mad-e to achieve a, record passage, and t that the crew behaved extremely well.'
