MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. May Gibbons, charged with assaulting Mary Bond, wa« remanded until tho sth of July. A remand was also granted in the case of Jas. 4 Moore, charged with deserting from the Pakeha. Chas. Hill was fined 5s for drunkenness,, and five first offenders . were convicted and discharged. Hugh MacMahon was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined 40s for resisting Constable Sleefch. Win. Colson, who obstructed Constable Smart in the execution of his duty, wae penalised in a similar amount. Robert Jas. Tyler, a steward on the Rotorua, was charged with having made away with 67 tins of condensed milk, the property of the shipping company, and a man named Olsen, a collector for a laundry, wae charged with having received them. It appeared that Olsen, when collecting soiled linen, etc., on the boat, carried the tins of milk away wrapped up in blankets. He stated that Tyler had given them, "to him. Tyler wae sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment, and Olsen was fined 40s on one charge, and ordered to come up for sen**i.ce when called on on the other. At the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, James Wilson, Harvey Spencer, and George Browse were convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Mr. T. Bland, J.P., was on the Bench.
