' Mr. Donald Campbell, the Commonwealth representative ou the Imperial Trade Comnii scion, in, the course of an interview, said he had endeavoured to induce the commission to take evidence and make ireconimendationa concerning inter - Dominion a-eciprocal Customs treaties, but tho chairman had ruled adversely. This practically excludes all forms of preference, ; including! tariffs and subsidies to shipping, and will reduce the scope of the commission's usefulness. He question* whether there is any justification for the expenditure upon it.
