MR. L. G. WEST.

MR. CHAS. DAHL, PALMERSTON NORTH.

Wholesale Importer and Manufacturer. Telegraphic Address — "Dahl," Palmerston North. 'Phone 54. P.O. Box 41. Bankers — Union Bank of Australia. Mr. Dahl was the first manufacturer in Palmerston North in his line of business, and his is undoubtedly the largest concern of the kind in New Zealand. He commenced business here in 1832 in a very small way indeed, but, with that push and energy characteristic of the early pioneers, he has built up a very flourishing institution. An inspection of his warehouse in Main-street, 'which covers upwards of 3000 feet of space, will reveal huge stocks of tents, tarpaulins, oilskin clothing, horse and cow covers, as well as huge stocks of ropes and twines. In the soft-goods factory there is probably the most up-to-date machinery to be seen in any part of the Domin- , ion. In value it represents many hun- | dreds of pounds. There is a machine for everything, and while Mr. Dahl believes in labour-saving devices, he is also an extensive' employer of labour. To his family is due some of the credit for the success of his business, for each one is a worker, and does his fair share to push the business along, "and in this way they have succeeded admirably. Mr. Dahl, sen., is a native of Denmark, and for a, time prior to coming to New Zealand he lived in Melbourne. Mr. Dahl is managing director of the Fresh Food and Cold Storage Stores,' also managing director of Chas. Dahl and Co., Ltd., dairying machinery importers. It is this firm that holds the agency for the famous Perfect Separator 'and other appliances ot a similar, brand.,
