Amongst those present were Major-General Godley (Commanding the Forces), Captain Spencer-Smith' (staff officer), Colonel Collins, Major' Mathieson, and Major Cowles. Captain Frandi, the officer in charge of the company, was in ithe chair. In proposing the toast of MajorGeneral Godley, the acting-secretary spoke of the high qualities which he possessed and of the splendid example which he has set the boys of this Dominion. He emphasised tho honour of being prepared to defend one's country, and especially to safeguard one's relatives, and hoped that everyone of the cadets present would follow the example of General Godley should the, country ever require their, services. Not only was General Godley interested in tho boys from a military point of view, but he -was keenly interested in their moral welfare. He was glad to say that "General Godley was a member of the Wellington Branch of the Young Men's Christian Association. Major-General Godley, in hie reply, said that the cadets were on a very important job, and he felt sure that they would do their best for the movement. Many things would have to be done that perhaps they did not wish to do, but that was so m any work of life. If they took an in,terest-*in their work, as time went on it would become more fascinating. He spoke of their uniforms as bejng very serviceable, and much more comfortable than, the tight tunic, and expressed a wish that he would be able before very long to see them at their drill. He wished to encourage the boys in their cadet career, and hoped that every one of them would make a true and loyal citizen soldier. The other toasts were "The V.M.C.A." (Major Cowles), "Kindred Companies" (Lieut. Nees), and "Colour-Sergeant Petrie" (Lieut. Nimmo). Colour-Sergeant Petxie is a member of the V.M.C.A. Cadet Corps, and has been, chosen as one of the New Zealand contingent for Canada. Before closing, Mr. Kersley (president of the V.M.C.A.) expressed the thanks of all pre&ent to Captain Fraudi for the kindness which he had extended to them in the form of the "social." A number of musical items were contributed by members of the company.
