HOCKEY
WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. The final matches in the first round were played_ yesterday, both grounds being ,in fair condition. Playing- at Karon, lieroawa, after an excellent game, defeated Karori by four goals to three. The winning team wore somewhat fortunate, ac tho goal whioh secured them the game was scored by a Karori man, who accidentally hit the. ball into his own goal mouth. Caterer (2) and Le Cbmpfc were the other scorers for Hereawa, while F. Spiers, Lower, and Dwyer were responsible fos Karori'e tally. Mr. Manning wu9 referee. The Hui Mai v. Petone fixture was played at Peton© on a somewhat heavy ground,, and resulted in a draw, oach side scoring two goals. Bay and Hoy scored for Hui Mai, and W. M'Ewan and Taplin 1 found the net for Pekme. Mr. Cueaok controlled the game. Atthe Adelphi Cafe last evening, tho Wellington Hookey Club entertained the members of the representative team, which recently toured the North. Mr. R. S. Pope, in a few, words of welconip, expressed the appreciation they felt at having the team present. Mr. A. Bennett, manager of the team, suitably 10Bponded. The first part of tho evening was devoted, to progressive euchre, tho first prize being won by Mr. A. Gill, v and the booby prize by Mr. "Pope; After cupper had been served the rest of the evening was devoted to songs and recitations.
