Mrs. Strong and the Randies were on their way to a, "social" when the outbreak occurred, and only the children were at home. The eldest, aged 16. who \ras assisted by Kloth, a neighbour, rescued the children. The flames quickly consumed the building, only a few small articles being saved. The cause is attributed to a defectivo chimney. The house ■was insured for £300 in the New 'Zealand office, but the contents were uninsured, and the occupiers lost all.
