COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY - SHORTAGE OF BOATS FURTHER EVIDENCE BY MB. CARLISLE. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Gopyricht LONDON, 10th June. The Commission appointed under the presidency of Lord Mersey to enquire on behalf of the Board of Trade into the Titanic disaster, continued its, examination of witnesses to-day. The Right Hon. Alexander Carlisle, consultant and adviser to Karland and Wjolff (builders of the Titanic), and who last year was appointed one of the Merchant Shipping Advisory Committee to make a report to the Board of Trade on. life-saving appliances, was further examined. He stated that he showed th« White Star officials hie plans for providing more boaie for the Titanic, and it rerted with the company to decide the number. He signed a report by the Advisory Committee of the Board of Trade recommending fewer boats, than the Titanic carried, and admitted it was difficult to explain why he signed, as he did not approve of the number. Mr. Havelock Wilson, general secretary of the Sailors and Firemen's Unjon, also signed, though he did not approve of the report. CUNARD COMPANY WTLL NOT ACCEPT RECOMPENSE. GIFTS TO CAPTAIN AND CREW LONDON 11th June. The Cunard Company has refused to accept any recompense for picking up the Titanic's survivors. The White Star. Company has presented gifts ranging from 100 guineas to the captain of the Carpatnia to a month's pay to members of the crew. AN UNUSUAL THING. USE OF SEARCHLIGHTS DISAPPROVED OF. (Received June 12, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, 11th June. Captain Passow, of the Inman Line, said he had crossed the Atlantic seven hundred times, and had never before seen a field of ics in the track taken by the Titanic. - > Mr. Miller, assistant hydrographer to the Admiralty, gave evidence to the effect that he disapproved of 'the use of search, lights by liners.
