SUBURBAN SERVICE
TO TKE EDITOB. Sir,— Residents in the suburban and on the Manawatu line, are hoping against hope that the Minister may yet be prevailed upon to reconsider his decision, and improve the service. Tho committee set up to formulate a list of trains that wore most urgently wanted, whittled that list down to what they considered the minimum, and after Mr. Myers's declaration, "that he intended to improve suburban railway facilities," approached him with a good deal of confidence. By mutilating the thue-tablo suggested by this committee, matters aro made worse in some respects than they were before. In particular, the 9.45 p.m. train from Thorndon, is next month to be deferred till 10.20. When tho deputation to the Minister asked that this train should be timed to run half an hour later than at present, they felt certain that co small and reasonable a request as adding a carriage to tho regular goods train leaving Thorndon at_ 8 p.m., v/ould bo sure to bo complied with. Now, however, that some Departmental molehill has proved an unsurlnountable obstacle to the accomplishment of this, we have a wait from 6.20 p.m. till 10.20 p.m. The 10.20 suits very well for people going home after a meeting or entertainment in the city, but for the unfortunate man or woman who has had an extra long day's work in town, and wants to get horne — you really need to hear their remarks to gauge their feelings — my pen is inadequate. It 6eem's quit© clear that until the residents of these suburbs riso as one man and compel attention to their necessities, the grievances will not' be remedied. — 1 am, etc., TIRED TRAVELLER. 9th June.
