EX-MISSIONARY'S FORTUNE

It is now alleged that th© jewels found in tho house of the ex-missionary Liebe, who died recently, came from the Czestachowa monastery, in Poland, which was desecrated and robbed some months ago. Liebo served an a chaplain at Ailesiy, where he was associated with tho llusbian monks concerned in the ' thefts. A chalice haa 'been discovered, '■ worth £20,000, that was stolen from Metz Cathedral. [A message from Berlin on the 6th inst. stated :— "Liebe, a retired Catholic missionary from India and Japan, died suddenly, and his heirs were a*>- j tounded to discover his treasures in an old chest, valued at £75,000. They inqluded several hundred diamonds and other gems." A subsequent cable slated that 111 a chest; belonging to Liebe, who had apparently taken Ins own life, was poison sufficient to kill thousands of perbons. An ex-priest named Macveh was recently sentenced for thefts from the Czestochowa monastery, also for the murder of his brother.} AN EXPLODED STORY. (Received May 8, 10 a.m.) BERLIN, 7th May. Experts have exploded the story regarding Liebe's gems, which are mostly imitations and valueless.
