CANADA AND AMERICA.
COMMERCIAL ANNEXATION. TAFT'S LETTER A BLOT ON AMERICAN TRADITIONS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 6th May. Sir Gilbert Parker, M.P., who has lately spent some time in the United States, said, in the course of an interview, that since the days of the late Jamea Gillespie Blame (a former Secretary of State and an unsuccessful Republican candidate for the Presidency against Grover Cleveland) certain Americans had greatly desired the commercial annexation of Canada — in the hope of its leading ultimately to the political union of the two countries. It was painful to have all the Presidential candidates supporting such an absorption. President Taft's letter was a blot on the high traditions of American foreign policy.
