Mr. W. G. Riddeil, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court to-day. Kato Donovan, who had been convicted for loitering and importuning in Torystreet, and ordered to como up for sentence when called on was sent to gaot for ono month. Accused had previously been sent to tho Salvation Army Home, but after remaining thcro a few days .she cleared out. Rose Fraser pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of a metal watch and chain from Ah Yun. Tho thoft waß committed in the Chinaman's shop, accused snatching the watch and chain from Yun'B vest. A fine, of 40s, with tho option of seven days' detention, was imposed. Georgina Perrett, a inmate of the Sal-* vation Arm^ Home, who had stolen £9 from John Taylor, prior to being committed_ to tho institution, was ordored to remain in the home for a furthor period of throo months. Eleven fir'st-offonding inebriates were dealt with in tho usual manner. William Haydon was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined 40s for resisting polico Constable D. Thompson. The alternative was fixed at seven days' imprisonment. An elderly man* Martin Neylon, who travelled on the Pateena from Nelson to Wellington without paying his fare, was 'convicted, and ordered to -pay the amount of tho fare, 16s. Daniel M'Carron, who procured liquor for a prohibited person, was penalised J in the sum of -PA. For a breach of his prohibition order, John James Kelliher was fined £3. In connection with a maintenance order made against Louie Mabel Johnstone, an. application to have the order varied byreducing tho weekly payments was granted. William Stevens was made tho subject of a prohibition order. For assaulting his wife, George Williams, who failed to put in an appearance, was fined 20b. Accueod pleaded not guilty, but aftor hearing evidence his Worship entered a conviction^ and sentenced him to one month's imprisonment. For using obsccno languago, James Williams was lined 40s, with costs 13s, and witness's expenses, 12s. Mr. F. J. Lissington, J.P., presided at the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, and dealt with the following cases of drunkenness: Two iirst offenders, who failed to appear, were each fined 10s, with tho option of forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Michael Hoskins and William Brow wore each mulcted in the sum of ss, the alternative being fixed at twentyfour hours' detention. One first offender was convicted and discharged. At Potone this morning, before Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, J.P., ono first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged.
