The Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourists has received the following cablegram from tho High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated 4th May, 1912. (Note— Quotations, unless otherwise specified, aro average market prices on spot) : — Mutton.— The market is quiet, but steady. Light weights continue scarce, and command premium prices. Cantorbury are not quoted officially. Tho prices aro about tho same as last week, viz. : — Canterbury, 4^d per lb; North Island light-weights, bid; heavy-weights, 3£d per lb. Lamb. — The market is vory Grm. There is a. general and active demand. Shipments are now clearing us soon as they arrive. Future prospects aro good. Can-tf-bury. s«d ; other than Canterbury, s*d : Plate, sid per lb. Beef. — Tho market is firm; a good demand. New Zealand hinds, 4|d; New Zealand fore, 3^d per lb. Butter. — The market is somewhat steadier. Choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 1103 per cwt; Australian, lOfc; Argentina, 105s j Danish, 113s; Siboriun, 106s. Cheese. — Thp market is quiot, but' rather steadier. New Zealand white, 695; coloured, 70s por. cwt. Hemp. — The market is firmer. There is more demand. Spot: New Zealand, good fair gtado por ton, £21 15s; fair grade, £20 10s; forward shipment, at same price; fair current Manila, spot, per ton, £22; forward shipment', £22 10s por ton. Tho output from Manila for the week was 26,000 bales. Wheat — Tho market is active, notwithstanding advices of heavy shipments. Nominal Values— N.Z. longborried wheat, ex granary, quarter of 4961b5, 38s; shortberricd, 375. Oats— The market is weaker, and there is a tendency downward in anticipation of heavy arrivals. Peas->-The market is firmer nominally. N.Z. peas, partridge, por 504165, 37b. JieanR — Tho market is steady, with a moderate enquiry. Nominally — N.Z. beans, f.a.q. (old crop), per 5041bs 39«.
