SHOOTING SEASON.
UNFAVOURABLE CONDITIONS IN THE NORTH. \ux TXLza&Ara — pbess association.] AUCKLAND, 2nd May. • Extremely unfavourable conditions' accompanied the opening- of the shooting season in Auckland. A few disappointed sportsmen who roturnod to city this evenirig~ had only acoounts of wretched sport to relate. There are generally several good bags on the first day of tho season, but this year motft experienced sportsmen have' had to be content with n brace. Quail and pheasants are reported to be very scarce. No reliablo estimate can yet be given of the number of shooting licensee issued^ but two thousand license forma have 'been distributed to agente throughout the district, and probably half that number will bo purchased. GOOD BAGS. TIMARU, 2nd May. It ie reported that there are a good number of game birds in 'the district, and good bags were made in several places on the opening day of tho season. The Waehdyke Lagoon, beside tho railway near the town, is tabooed to gunners, and is a pretty eight with the birds flocking there for safety,
