NATIONAL PICTURES.

PICTURE FUND PASSES £2000. ANOTHER~£3SO GIFT. Ovev £400 has gcu© to the national picture fund since Saturday's list was published, and the total now is £60 above £2000. ' Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P., fe giving a picture worth £350, "Highland Pastures," a splendid upland scene by the late Henry Moore. This picture was warmly admired last week by many visitors to the gallery, and citizens generally, especially Scotsmen, will be glad to see it in the national institution. The Industrial Association is presenting a water-colour, "A Grey Morning, the Mae<s,' Holland," by F, Spenlove. For this purpose the association is adding £10 to the £50 previously voted. The Wellington Savage Club has also joined the growing ranks of picture-givers, and the committee's choice has well fallen, at a cost of £50, on Oswald Birley's "Professor Smith," a Punch-and-Judy showman, whose shrewd head and battered hat are quaintly matched. It is anticipated that these examples, added to others, will &oon induce people who 'have been awaiting developments to join together and send the fund flying upwards to the deeired £5000 point. It is necessary for all friends of the national movement to work spiritedly and persistently, because private buyers may be capturing some of the pictures which the projected public gallery should have.
