ST. ALBAN'S CHURCH, EASTBOURNE.

The report to be laid before tho annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Alban's, Eastbourne, gives an interesting history of the Church, and thanks tho Revs, J. Jones and J. L. A. Kayll for their ministrations, and Mr. Clere,, architect, for his services in connection with tho erection of the new church. Tho report goes on to say: — "During 1911, the committee, after considering ways and means, recommended to a general meeting of parishioners that step be taken for the creation of a separate parochial district. 'this was approved by th* meeting, and Synod subsequently granted the desire. This meant the uppoinWnonl of a permanent resident yic*r, the bishop's selection for the position benit, l«v. E. I. Sola, whose induction took place on 12th December. A very pleasant gathering was held the Mowing evening to welcome Mr. Sola a* tha first vicar of the newly-created district, and to farowell Mr. Jones, vicar of the parish with which we had been hitherto incorporated. Subsequently a meeting of parifehionera was held to place tho machinery of the management in proper operation. tt was decided that the vestry consist of seven members, in addition to the churchwardens. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee and other workers, especially tho ladies, and the spiritual services of the os-vicar, Mr. Jonee, were not forgotten. Thus we arrived at the parting of tho ways s« between the old and the new order of things. The vestry's work since its election has been pleaoant'. The advent of the vicar to the district ha»> given an undoubted stimulus to church life, and we would hero take the opportunity of expressing our appreciation of his efforts in that direction. The good ■ attendance* of the congregations are caute for gratification, and help to prove the confidence that prompted those who advocated the change. So far oe the church building is concerned, there is little at the' present time that calls for comment. A# to the grounds, there ie some scope for some improvements of a minor nature. This will no doubt receive the > attention of the iucotnimr vestry. Mr. W. ff. Shortt ha«, «m previously, acted as organist, and the Church is still indebted to him for the use of hi» organ. The question of purchasing v. church organ. is one that will require consideration in the near future. Tho Sunday School Is In a very satisfactory condition, being very well attended. Except for children's church Bervicos. tho Sunday School classes »re held iik the State School, for which the vestry p&y» a small annual rental. ' The future of St. Alban's is very promising, and the retiring vestry wishes the incoming officers, a year even more sue-**-*. ful than anticipated."
