The annual meeting of the Wellington Harbour BoaM for the election of a chairman has been called for halfpaet 2 o'clock next Thursday, 2nd May. Mr. A. W. Rutherford writes to the Christohurch Press as follows :— "ln tn recent .issue you state- that I intendted! contesting the Hurunui seat at the next election. This is not strictly correct. What I_ did promise- was that in, the event of a dissolution I would favourably consider the proposition, and that owing to the chaotic state of the party in office it would be as an Independent. Riddell, S.M., to-day, with having broken electric light globes in Danielstreet. . 'The lirfet general meeting of members of the newly-formed Early Settlers' and Historical Association of Wellington will be held to-morrow evening at the Town Hall (committee room No. 1), when tho report. of the committee which, has been actively engaged since tho inception of the association will be placed before, membei'e. Persons desiring to join the association are invited to attend tho meeting, and as the work of the association requires the help ,of a largo body of willing and enthusiastic members it is hoped that thero will be a laTge attendance of persons willing to take their share in carrying out lha work of the association. It is also hoped that the early settlers and their descendants will be well represented. Mr. W. A. Midlane, who recently retired from the firm of Miller, Midlane and Co., to join his brothers, Messrs. C. T. and Bruco Midlane, in the North Company, Ltd., has taken up his new ipterests.
