NEW RAILWAY STATION TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —l notice-that an attempt is about to be made to induce the Government to proceedat once with the new Wellington railway' station. This agitation is all ve/y well, but I would suggest that before any definite site is sdected the Government should be asked to confer with the City Council and Harbour Board as to the most suitable site. It is well known that Wellington is extending rapidly towards the south ,a,nd east, and Courte-nay-place and Clyde-quay, which a few yeaxe ago were looked upon as away from the real business area, are now, by reason of the expansion of the city, practically in. its centre. The Te Aro Railway Station, the removal of which a few years ago waa clamorously demanded by c«i>tain business people, is now recognised a,s_ mqet important, and as capable of being largely used as a goods station. In view of the Harbour Board's published intention to build, at an early date, a wharf near tbt* Te Aro station to deal with the Lyttelion and Syriney ferry traffic, ib is important^ io look ahead, and place the new station where it will be most suitable in the years to come. A new station, if feasible, pp. or near the present Te Aro station site would certainly be much more convenient for the mass of the peopkv —i.e., th© r&sidente of Te Aro, Mount Victoria, Newtown, Kilbirnie, Hataitai.
