NEW ROAD OPENED.

TIMARU, 18th April. About 2000 people were present at the ceremony of opening the new road to Greenstone Island, at the mouth of tho Opihi, which, it is expected will become a popular picnic resort. It is aituated five miles . from Temuka. More people would no doubt have been present, but tihere were not enough vehicles available. Besides opening up a popular resort- the road will also be of use to Maori fishermen and anglers. Hitherto the way to the -island lay partly through private property,' but, with the aid of a Government subsidy, the road line was brought through this, and the road formed.
