The Prime Minister fHon. T. Mackenzie) is expected to return to Wellington from Taranaki on Monday. The Hon. H. G. Ell, PostmasterGeneial, left this morning for Hawkes Bay on business connected with his Department. The Hon. G-. Laurenson will leave £or the South to-night. In the afternoon he will open the new public bathe at Sumner. Mr. C. J. W. Griffiths, Grand Master of tho Masonic order, is visiting Wellington. Mr. John Smith, Acting-M^yor of Wellington, returned from the Sonth this morning. Mr. G. A. Cormack has been appointed Deputy Chief Electoral Officer tor the Dominion. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Robertson leave j for Sydney to-day by the Maunganui, for a few weeks' holiday. Lieutenant D. A. M'Curdy's appointinant for service with the Senior Cadet Corps at Upper Hutt is gazetted. Air. D. G. F. Susthu is gazetted Registrar of Marriages, Births, and - Deaths for the Carterton district. Mr. A. R. Hislop is leaving on the 26th inst. for Sydney, en route to Great Britain and the Continent on a business trip. ( Mr. F. Waldegrave, late Under-Seere-tary for Justice, left Auckland for Sydney, and England by the Mongolia on Wednesday. The Minister for Education has approved Bister Mary Ambrose being manager of St. Joseph's Industrial School at Upper Hntt. Mr. W. A. Pryor, secretary of the Employers' Federation, will leave for Chrifitchurch to-night, _ to attend the sitting of the Arbitration Court in that city. A Mr. Ernest Gillon, Railway Locomotive Superintendent for Westland, who is on a departmental visit to Wellington, "will return to the West Coast tomorrow. A London cable message states that the Trinity College of Music has reappointed Messrs. Mistowski, Schilsky, and St. George ite examiners for Australasia. Th» Revs. C. H. Harvey, M.A. (Church, of England), A. M'Donald and J. D. C. Madill (Presbyterian) are gazetted officiating ministers under the Marriage Act. Mr. A. R. The vacancy on the District Council - f Convocation of the University of New Zealand, caused by the retirement of Mi. L. Cohen, ha* been filled by the unopposed election of Professoi- Hunter. Mr. Hector Lee, of Wellington, nas i-etuxned from a twelve months' tour of the world. During tho time he was away he visited England, various couniries in- Europe, Russia, India, China, .:iul Japan. Mr. Robert Mowatt, of the Harbour i/oard staff, who was taken seriously ill come weeks ago, and removed* to the hospital, is so much better that he has been able to return to his home in Thompson-street. Mr. David Yorwarth, J.P., chairman of the Mont dOr Goldmining Company, Rose, died on Sunday, aged seventy-five year*. He was a member of the Ross Borough Council for several yean, and was elected Mayor in 189 T. Mr. C. Trevethick, of the Hutt, accompanied by Mrs. Trevethick, will leave by the Athenic next Thursday on a visit to England. The Hutt Bowling Club, of which Mr. Trevethick is president, has made him presentation and wished him a pleasant trip. Mr. D. Buick, M.P., left for the South last evening. He will meet Mr. Massey at Christchurch and journey with him to Wyndham for the purpose of attend.ing a. "social" to Mr. J. G. Anderson, M.P. During Mr. Buick's long residence in New Zealand he has never visited Southland. At Kaponga last night (states a Press Association telegram from Hawera) a largely attended function was held to farewell the Rev. W. B. Scott, Methodist minister, on the eve of his removal to. Aramoho. He was a prominent footballer and a member of the Taranaki > Referees' Association. The Rev. P. J. Wainwright, who has otien appointed to the charge of the Pefone Baptist Church, was accorded a congregational reception last evening. Mr. R. Edmeades, who presided, welcomed Mr. Wainwright on behalf of the Church, and other speakers were Messrs. G. Alexander (representing the officers), U. Haddy (Sunday School), J. J. Lewthwaite (choir), H. Nankeville (Bible Class), and H. Low (Christian Endeavour). Mr. Wainwright will preach his first sermon at Petone on Sunday next.
