GRADING OF HEMP AND TOW
During last month 9345 bales of hemp were graded at the various ports in New Zealand) as> compared with 9270 baleß for Ihe corresponding month of last year, an increase oL- 73 bales. For the twelve mouths ending 31st March, the number of bales graded was 85,684, as compared with 113,528 for tho previous twelve* months, the decrease _ being 1 27,844 bales. Lost month's grading.-} included 336 bales line, 4329 good fair, 4379 fair, 277 common. None graded superior. Rejected bales numbered 22. At Foxton 4354 bales passed through tho graders' hand 1 ;, Wellington being next on tho list with 3578 bales, uud Auckland third wiih 788 Ijulop. Tho balance was coiii ributoct by Bluff. Picton, Dunediu, and Lyttelton. During tho month 2678 bales of tow wero dealt with, as compared with 2480 for tho corresponding mouth of lust your, an increase ot 198 bales. The grading* were — 784 bules first, 1368 second, 390 third : whilo 136 bales were condemned. The largest quantity, 1215 bales was put through at Wellington, 947 at Fo>:ton, and '213 at Auckland.
