LAWN TENNIS.

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The quarterly meeting of tho council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennie Awsociation was held last night. Mr. 11. Brown (Canterbury) had given notice to move : — "That ill tho opinion of this council tho Now Zealand championships should be held ouly in the four punoipal oitiesj alternately in thej North und South Islands, and that in the event of tho championships being held in another centre than Wellington, then the conduct of the meeting should bo delegated to the local association. Mr. Brown was not present, bub a motion, proposing to restrict the championships to the four principal oities, was proposed by Mr. Hurley and defeated. Mr. Hurley then movod : — "That a North _ Island and South Island singles championship for ladies and gentlemen be established, at a cost not exoeeding twenty guineas, to provide for permanent trophies, to be played for yearly at tournaments approved by fcho council, but so that they shall not clash with the Now Zealand championship meeting." This motion lapsed for want of a seconder. An application by the Hawkos Bay Association for tho 1912 New Zealand championships was referred to the Management Committee for favourable consideration, v , •
