CONSERVING WATER.
CITY COUNCIL'S NEW PROVISION. A bylaw for the purpose of regulating charges for extraordinary supplies of water from the city mains wae adopted by tho City Council last night. Following are the main provisions :: — • • 1. In all cases where an "extraordinary" supply of water is required for any premises 'the whole 'of ' the' water supplied to such premises shall be supplied through a, meter. ;. 2. The consumer of water supplied through a meter ehall pay the water rate tor ordinary eupply in respect of euch piemises. 3. The charges for extraordinary water supply shall be ascertained as follow : — (i) The consumer shall be debited j with a charge of ninepence per thousand gallons during (a) the period commencing Ist April in any year and ending 30th September next ensuing; (b) the period commencing Ist October in any year and ending 31st March next' ensuing, (ii) If during any euch halfyearly period the charges so debited | shall exceed half t)>i« amount of the water rate for -ordinary supply for that year in respect of the premises the excess shall be payable as 'water rate for extraordinary supply.
