MR. R. A. WRIGHT A CANDIDATE. Mr. R. A. Wright is announced 36 a candidate for the Mayoralty, and will commence his campaign after Easter. For three years Mr. Wright represented Wellington South in Parliament, and for 6ix years he was a. member of the Wellington City Licensing Committee. He has been closely identified with co-opera-tive building societies fdr" twelve ycais. COUNCILLOR SHIRTCLTCTE DECLINES TO STAND. The name of Councillor G. W. Shii-t-sliffe had been suggested, but the receipt of the following letter from him by Mr. T., Balliugcr to-da.y settles the point: — "I very much regret having to advise you, as chairman of the deputation of citizens which honoured me yesterday with a request that I should accept nomination for the position of Mayor dm--ing the ensuing year, thai I find it quite impossible, consietent with, the exigencies of my firm's business, to accede to the request." Sir. A. 'S. Bias, who has served several terms as a councillor, has also been asked to stand. Mr. Bies left for a brief visit to Auckland to-day^and promised to consider the matter on the journey.
